Giving away a Years worth of music!
Everyone likes music! Right? Well this is why I am giving away a subscription to eMusic for a year. What’s it include? For the year you get 15 tracks every month to download. That’s a total of 180 tracks for the entire year. For Free!
I am not affiliated with eMusic in any way except that I use their service and have been a happy user up until now.
What is eMusic? Well, eMusic is an music distributing service like iTunes but without the DRM (Digital Right Management), they have a good amount of tracks also over 2 million now I am sure their over 2.5 million but I have not been keeping track to be honest. They also recently got into selling audio books without any DRM good collection about over 1000 or will be by the end of the year. One of the great things about eMusic that I personally like is that most of the music they offer is 256kbps VBR (Variable Bit Rate), which is better then some of the offerings from other music downloading services. At least I know the music I download from there is free from restrictions and a great quality.
Also included with the subscription is an RCA 512mb MP3 player, now I know that everyone and their moms have an iPod but this is kinda like a backup or a side mp3 player for anything you want it to be. So even if you don’t want it you got to take it.
How can you have a chance to get in this giveaway? Well this is how. Comment(with a valid email address) or a track back with what/why you like about music. No real rules except two, USA only … Unless your willing to risk the time it will take to ship the package to your country outside of the USA and only one of your comments or Track-backs will count. Multiple submissions will be ignored and possible block after the first entry. So please avoid posting more then once.
I will be picking the winner on Friday October 19th, 2007 and will be shipping out the prize on Saturday morning using Priority mail. Once the prize is received you must sign up BEFORE October 31st. This is when it expires so sign up quickly once receiving it.

So what do I love about music?
Well, to quote Almost Famous (a music lover’s movie): “to begin with: everything.” Cheesy as it might be, that one line does an astounding job at not only nailing my answer entirely, but doing it in no more than four words. My true answer, however, will not be as succinct.
In order to best qualify what it is about music that I love so much, its important to first quantify how big a part of my life music really represents. As a conservative estimate, Last.fm reports that over the last 16 months I have listened to roughly 25,000 tracks, which, at about 4 minutes per track (which is reasonable for my type of music), comes out to around 20% of my awake hours spent listening to music. Twenty percent!
Luckily, both for me and my status as a productive member of society, I am able to do other things during this 20% of my life, in addition to listening to music. Which brings me to my first, and most significant reason for liking music: music embodies my soundtrack for my life, whether it be at home through my macbook, at school through my iPhone, at the gym through my Shuffle, in my car through my iPod, or any other time – my music travels with me, and allows me to cater my soundtrack to my mood, my surroundings, and my current disposition. This is a nontrivial achievement, and I can honestly say that my days are brighter, more comforting, more tranquil as a result. The power of music to affect my outlook on whatever is facing me is staggering, and it is this power of music that I love so much.
But music’s power isn’t limited to the aforementioned attributes - it goes beyond that. Music represents a proverbial vessel, a time machine, a path, to not only a different time, but a different place, a different view. This time travel ability is a double-edged sword however, which, while able to remind me of the best of times is dually able to take me back to the lowest of lows in my life. Regardless of where it takes me, I perpetually stand in awe of the ability of a random combination of notes and meter to impact my life in such a profound way.
Finally, I love music because of the connections its able to create, between friends and strangers, between the closest family members and the most distant of relatives. Music brings me closer to my friends, allowing me to share what I have found with them and they, with me. It brings me closer to my family, for just as my dad strums the guitar on holidays and get-togethers, I find myself missing the bonding strength of those songs he sings, now more than ever. Those songs come from a different time, a time that I cannot and will not ever relate to, and yet they are as dear to me as they are to him, albeit for different reasons.
I think I better stop and stick with what I wrote, but suffice it to say that I love music because even writing about it just now with no soundtrack other than the tap of my fingers against the keys, has made me thoroughly content.
Wow, what a generous gift. I was poking around looking for information on the n800 (just ordered mine in time for the announced n810) and found this post. Now for me I enjoy music. My daughter Amanda lives for it. So this post is really for my 19 year old daughter who must have music every waking moment. Literally from the time that she wakes, she brings her half-broken laptop with her and balances it on the sink so she can listen to her songs during her shower. As I drive her to school (sigh - 19 and still does not drive herself) she turns off NPR as soon as she can so that she can listen to music. She describes any talking on the radio as just white noise and static.
She is a music major at college, she is performing in three choirs, one traveling overseas to perform in Brussels and she just landed her first role in a musical. Throw all that together with weekly music lessons and it would not be wrong to say my daughter lives for music. She loves the independent scene and would love a subscription to eMusic.
Thank you for your considerations.
