I am completely disappointed by the status sites or social messaging sites. This is really a rant more then anything. Being this is tech based stuff I am sure you wouldn’t mind
.
I am sick of Twitter on how it has its hick ups, of course no service is perfect and nothing will be but twitters ups and downs are bit to much for me personally and well I am dropping them like a brick. I stopped using twitter back in November and switched over to Jaiku but that is another story. Last week I got back on Twitter in hopes that it would be a refresh for me and liven up my social aspect of the online life i have.
It didn’t … I found myself as annoyed as I was before so yes I am dropping it. Maybe in another 3 months I will go back on there and see if it has changed, but I don’t think it will be.
I really think Twitter is great it’s just they need to get a little more stable and I know that’s tough with so many users accessing the site so frequent.
Jaiku is a great service and it’s now owned by Google but Jaiku needs a lot of TLC. They could go places if they added more of a mobile feel to the service and added a few more features. The thing that attracted me to Jaiku was the community feel of the site. Jaiku has channels built in to the service so you can discuss things easily within the channels and keep track of it. This is something twitter is missing and needs it badly! Pownce has something like it but not exactly.
I am leaving Jaiku from a personal level where I will not be posting my day to day stuff but more of using it as a community resource when I need a question answered or I am looking for something. Jaiku will be perfect for it.
That leaves me with Pownce … I really like Pownce it has file sharing, link sharing, event sharing, and good ol’ messaging. It allows your posts to be public, private, to a group of friends, or a certain person you are friends with. Pownce is more community like then Twitter but less then Jaiku, so I can live with that. It’s mobile website works on my phone and on my Amazon Kindle, which is a major plus for me. It is missing one thing, actually it’s missing two things I would love that they had … a SMS code and a Windows Mobile application of course with a windows mobile application they can extend the delay of a SMS code but both would be ideal for mobile use. I mean not everyone has an iPhone(yet!)
. Oh it’s also the only service that I know in this area that has a paid plan. The paid plan removes ads, higher uploading limit, and you can customize your profile. I am debating if i should or should not go pro.
So there you have it my random rant about status/social messaging sites well at least the top three in my book. I am sticking with Pownce and hopefully it will do.
If you’re on Pownce and want to be my friend
here is my profile http://pownce.com/DigitalKNK/. I will be a regular on there trust me
